Coronavirus: Sex & Love in the time of Quarantine

So you’ve decided to self isolate? In this current climate of confusion and uncertainty around COVID-19, if you can afford to take the time off to quarantine yourself it’s probably one of the best things you can do for your health, as well as for the health and safety for the community around you.

You’ve stocked up on loo paper and have enough pasta to last you until Christmas 2025, but did you think about your other needs? The needs of the loins? I mean, two weeks is actually quite a lot of time to spend in the one place, unable to go outside or be around other people, and while there are all those Netflix shows on your watch-list that you have been waiting to get to, even TV will get old pretty quick.

So, with all that time on your hands, well perhaps it’s time to make one more quick shopping trip, or if you’re already in isolation do an online shopping spree, to stock up on a few things you may not realise you’ll need til it’s too late… And boy will your idle hands thank you.

Don’t forget to practice Safe Sex

Being quarantined with the one you love could be a good thing. It was reported last week that an Orlando couple quarantined on the Grand Princess said it supercharged their sex lives. If you’re in quarantine with another person please keep continuing your safe sex practices. There are joke memes going around about the predicted baby boom in around nine months time, but it really is no joke. Keep using condoms properly (do NOT use olive oil, or any kind of oils including coconut, and almond, and oil-based products like Vaseline) and for those on birth control please make sure you are up to date on things like Depo and Implanon, and have a fresh stock of “the pill” on hand. If you’re not in isolation already, talk to your GP or local pharmacy about how to make sure you’re properly protected before you go into quarantine.

Stock up on Lube

There’s always lube in my house. Like it seems there is a never-ending supply of bottles and tubes… The thing is though, they’re usually mostly empty. You know, at that raspberry-making squeeze sound they make as you try and eke out the very last dribbles… How are your bottles? Are they at the end of their run? You really don’t want to get to three days in quarantine and realise you’re gonna have to start using the olive oil, especially if that’s also being rationed!

The Kiwis had the right idea. While Australians stockpile toilet paper, those naughty New Zealanders have been buying sex toys. If there was ever a time you wanted to try out and experiment with new products then a two week mandatory isolation period is the perfect time! Check out some reputable adult shops online and see what their delivery periods are (most local Australian shops can guarantee next day delivery) and, if you can, have a bit of a splurge. Please do consider buying locally and keeping the money within the community, and avoid mass sites like Amazon etc as you never really know if the advertised product is what it says it is, and you’re just lining the pockets of billionaires, rather than helping out a local business that may be feeling the pinch in this time.

Do you need more Batteries?

While most toys these days are rechargeable, there are a lot of people out there who still like their trusty battery operated items and, depending on the toy you use, they might take some pretty unusual sized ones. Sure, you can raid the remote controls or other things, but having a good, fresh stock of batteries in a situation where you can’t leave the house for a couple of weeks at least is a really good idea.
